About CarbonMat
Independent Interpretation of Organic and Carbon Materials
CarbonMat provides scientific interpretation of coal, dispersed organic matter, mineral associations, and carbon materials.
Our role is to determine what the evidence shows, not to produce isolated measurements or generic laboratory reports.
We examine materials in the contexts where they matter:
resource evaluation, carbon performance, beneficiation, and research.
How We Approach Evidence
CarbonMat treats every dataset as a record of processes, not just properties.
We integrate:
optical petrography and maceral analysis,
microstructural evolution in carbon materials,
Raman and XRD disorder metrics,
mineral occurrences and paragenesis,
sample preparation, burial history, and alteration signatures.
Interpretation is not a single output.
It is the alignment of structure, context, and behaviour.

Independent and Unbiased
CarbonMat is not tied to commercial laboratories, equipment vendors, or institutional agendas.
We do not reshape results to satisfy operational expectations or external interests.
When evidence is insufficient, we state it clearly.
Quality and Professional Boundaries
CarbonMat maintains:
adherence to ISO/AS practices where applicable,
careful calibration and verification of imaging and reflectance data,
transparent discussion of limitations,
rejection of unsupported claims,
interpretation grounded in physical processes, not correlations alone.
If a conclusion cannot be justified, it will not be made.
See our Specialised Services.
Who We Work With
Mining companies, laboratories, carbon material developers, academic research groups, and R&D teams that require clarity when results conflict, materials deviate, or performance is not explained by bulk analyses.
We are most effective when engaged to interpret, not to simply measure.
About the Founder
CarbonMat is led by Dr. Sandra Rodrigues, organic petrologist specialising in coal, carbon materials, and microstructural evolution.
She has worked across academic, industry, and R&D environments and contributes to international petrographic practice.
